Supporting Entrepreneurship & Small Businesses
Supporting Entrepreneurship & Small Businesses
More than half of the new jobs in America are created by small businesses. They have become the backbone of this economy along with the workers who keep them running. Small businesses offer healthy competition which keeps prices low for consumers. They reinvest dollars right back into our community and can uplift entire regional economies.
When it comes to supporting small businesses, I will protect the mom-and-pop shops on Main Street from the corporate predators on Wall Street and give small businesses the resources they need to grow and thrive.

My agenda to unlock entrepreneurship opportunities and grow small businesses includes:
Reforming the tax code that favors large corporations, to deliver meaningful relief to small businesses, including offering standard deductions that save small businesses time and money when filing their taxes.
Increasing the tax deduction for small business start-up costs from $5,000 to $65,000 to better reflect the true costs associated with opening a new business.
Unlocking capital that has been too hard for entrepreneurs to access, including through new federal grants and low-interest loans.
Providing federal assistance for community banks to cover interest costs while small businesses expand to generate the revenue they need to pay off the loans.
Awarding block grants to states and counties to invest in resources supporting small businesses such as financial planning, counselors to navigate the process, and help understanding regulations.
Working with local governments to cut burdensome red tape that holds small businesses back by making it easier to obtain occupational licenses, encouraging portability so businesses can operate across state lines, and incentivizing simplified licensing, zoning, and permitting processes.
Increase the number of government contracts awarded to small business firms from 23% to more than 50%, this will surge more than $20 billion of revenue into our small business economy.
