A FIGHTER FOR OUR FAMILIES

Workers’ Rights

Labor unions and their organizing efforts have secured many of the workplace protections, safety standards, fair pay, and benefits so many of us rely on today. I am honored to have enjoyed the support of various labor groups, including SEIU Texas that has endorsed our campaign for the US Senate, because they know I will fight tooth-and-nail for worker’s rights. I am proud to have a lifetime 100% pro-labor voting record on both the state and the federal level. I’ve marched, rallied, organized, and walked the picket line with union members across my career. In fact, the first job I had was as a call service representative and I saw first hand how unions had improved working conditions and wages for me.

Senate Priorities

In the U.S. Senate, my priorities are clear:I’m committed to ensuring that a hard day’s work earns a fair day’s pay. That people across Texas can access opportunities and have the skills they need to compete on the global marketplace. Trump has rewarded the large corporations who have offshored and sent American jobs overseas. Not me. I will put a stop to giving our tax dollars to those who send our jobs overseas and I will work to bring back and keep these jobs in America. My focus remains on economic dignity: when workers thrive, Texas thrives.

  • Supporting legislation I’m already cosponsoring such as the PRO Act to defend labor rights and collective bargaining.

  • Ending tax breaks for those who send our American jobs overseas.

  • Raising the minimum wage.

  • Continuing to oppose all forms of so called “right-to-work” laws that undermine protections for hard working Texans.

  • Supporting the right of all workers, including federal employees, to join a union and collectively bargain.

  • Cracking down on union busting activities.

My Work in the United States Congress

In Congress, I’ve fought for union workers by co-sponsoring:

  • The PRO Act, which protects workers’ right to join a union and bargain for higher pay, better benefits, and safer workplaces.

  • The No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing Act that I’ve co-sponsored to close tax loopholes that reward corporations for shifting American jobs and profits overseas

  • The MERIT Act to require the reinstatement of recently fired probationary federal employees and protect workers from unjust or politically motivated terminations.

  • The Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act to strengthen protections and workplace rights for domestic workers.

  • The Raise The Wage Act which I will push in the Senate so that one job is enough to pay the bills, save for retirement, and still have money in your wallet. I support indexing the minimum wage to inflation so that it keeps up with the cost of living.
