Affordability & A Strong Texas Economy For All
Every month, the bills get higher while our paychecks stay the same. Costs have gone up for housing, groceries, prescriptions, fuel, utilities, healthcare, and so much more due to Trump’s failed economic policies, including his unlawful tariffs. We’re witnessing the first generation of Americans who are worse off than their parents. Young people feel hopeless about their ability to buy a home, start a business, or raise a family because of high costs, low wages, and an economy that only works for billionaires. Opportunity is slipping away as barriers keep rising. Texans deserve an economy that works for all of us, not just the powerful few. I’m fighting to raise wages, lower costs, and cut taxes for the middle class and working families.
Texas has the 8th largest economy in the world: so why is it that we also have the highest number of uninsured people, rising rent and foreclosure rates, and our farmers and ranchers are experiencing record bankruptcies? Thirty years of Republican control and failed leadership have caused Texans to suffer. Our state is prosperous, in spite of the Republicans, yet the people are struggling. I’m running to tackle the affordability crisis on day one.

I will slash prices for groceries, utilities, and housing – not just through subsidies but by actually lowering costs. I will fight to:
Repeal Trump’s unlawful tariffs that have hit Texas the hardest, causing prices to skyrocket for consumers, lowering sales for Texas exports, and killing Texans’ jobs.
I will make the billionaires and the largest corporations pay their fair share so we can deliver tax cuts and relief to the middle class, working families, and small businesses.
Pass strong laws to combat price-gouging and hold accountable those who take advantage of consumers during natural disasters and emergencies.
Reduce the cost of utilities by reinstating the Inflation Reduction Act incentives for wind and solar energy that boosted investment in energy production and storage and brought low-cost energy to consumers.
Increase wages for hard-working Texans.
Support a permanent child tax credit and an increased tax credit for families with a newborn baby
Expand and permanently strengthen the Earned Income Tax Credit for essential and frontline workers, including shift and healthcare workers, teachers, school support staff, and first responders.
Reduce taxes on Affordable Care Act healthcare plans offered on the marketplace.
Oppose all new taxes and tax hikes on individuals earning less than $400,000 annually.

I’ve already started tackling this issue and in the Senate, I will fight to get these priorities across the finish line:
I co-sponsored the Tax Cut for Workers Act of 2025 because I know when the middle and working class thrive, it lifts up our entire economy.
I’m fighting to pass the American Family Act, which I cosponsor in the House. This bill provides a permanent child tax credit that families can receive every month
I co-sponsored the Affordable Insulin Now Act, capping insulin at $35 per month, and I support reinstating President Biden’s efforts to lower the cost of lifesaving prescription and generic drugs, because healthcare should not be tied to your wallet.
I’m a proud co-sponsor of the Raise The Wage Act because $7.25 is not enough to cover the bills
I introduced the Rural Housing Voucher Enhancement Act to improve this existing program's ability to help vulnerable residents maintain stable housing when USDA-financed properties prepay or are foreclosed, forcing landlords to be responsive, making it easier to access, and improving outreach in rural communities.
I co-sponsored the Downpayment Toward Equity Act to help first-generation homebuyers with down payment assistance.
